Physical science is a branch of natural science that studies non-living or living systems, in contrast to the life sciences. In turn, it has many branches, each of which is called "physical science", collectively referred to as the "physical sciences". However, the term "physical" creates an unintentional, somewhat arbitrary distinction, since many branches of physical science also study biological phenomena and branches of chemistry such as organic chemistry.

Physical science can be described as all of the following:
• A branch of science (a systematic enterprise that constructs and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe).
• A branch of natural science - natural science is an important branch of science that attempts to explain and predict the phenomena of nature, based on empirical evidence. In the natural sciences, the hypotheses must be verified scientifically to be considered as scientific theory. Validity, precision, and social mechanisms that ensure quality control, such as peer review and the repeatability of findings, are among the criteria and methods used for this purpose. Natural science can be divided into two main branches: the life sciences, for example biology and physical science. Each of these branches, and all its sub-branches, are called natural sciences.
